SEO Tips for Image Optimization On Any Website

Search engine optimization is the number one factor in getting your page ranked and noticed. This helps to ensure people view your website and that Google and other search engines rank it as a valuable piece of the internet. While most people know about the basics needed to optimize a page many are at a loss as to what to do about images. For a long time many webmasters just left images as they were and didn’t factor them into optimization, but times are changing. Image tags, especially with the advent of image searches, can be useful for SEO purposes, if you know how to use your keywords effectively. Below you will find a few tips and tricks to properly optimizing your images.

File Names

The file name does matter. Many people forget how important file names are when trying to optimize an image. The keyword or keywords should always appear in the file name. Rename any and all files to reflect what thepicture is or what the website is associated with. For example, if you are looking to garner attention about the genetics of eye colors a picture of blue eyes should be named “blue_eyes_genetics.jpg”. This will help grab attention and allow your image to come up in image searches. When image file names are left as a simple string of numbers they will come up muchlower in search engines, if at all.

 Content Connection and Integration

While it seems like a good idea to stuff websites full of images the images should always have some connection to the website content. If you are writing about dog breeds having pictures of sunrises and cars is not going to help you get visitors. Sure, it will gain you some quick viewers, but if you are looking to engage readers your images should be associated with your content. The image and the content must line up for search engine bots to truly crawl the site accurately. Be sure to keep in line with your content regarding the images you choose to host and you will find your site will quickly rise in the rankings. The goal is not to just gain viewers. It is to engage viewers and keep them coming back for more.

 Alt Text

Alt text is how search engine bots figure out what your image is about. You should make sure the alt text is a solid description of what the image is about. If you are using an image as a click through to another page you should make sure the alt text describes the page that the image links too. Strong, descriptive alt text helps search engine bots categorize your images correctly and efficiently. The better the descriptor the quicker your images will be appropriately categorized. Alt texts should contain the important information about the image. If it is a logo image the name of the company plus the word Logo will do the trick.

 Overstuffing Keywords

This tip might seem counterintuitive but it is important not to stuff the anchor text or Alt text with keywords. You want to describe the content and optimize it for your users and search engine bots. Overstuffing the file name, or anchor text with keywords will mess up the algorithm and distract search engine bots. The stuffing of keywords will also make for a difficult viewing experience for your readers. Essentially overexerting your keyword power will do the opposite of what search engine optimization is supposed to do.

Less is More

The final trick is another counterintuitive one; keep your images to a minimum unless you are a photography website. Sure, images look great, but the SEO gods only speak text. Alt text, file names and even Meta tags can help your images gain relevancy, but text always reigns supreme in the land of search engine optimization. Simply put your images should be an accoutrement of your site; it should not be the main star. Armed with these tips and tricks most web master should have no problem optimizing their images in such a fashion that it will actually help their page rank. In the past images seemed unimportant to webmasters, but today images are a serious part of the equation that must be considered.

Influence Your Search Position Using Social Media Sites

There are hundreds of factors that the search engines consider when creating their results pages. Web content and links have always been considered important. More recently, the use of social indicators has been highlighted by the likes of Google as a way to identify Author Authority or Author Rank. A lot of attention from social media websites means that an author is obviously well respected within their online community. Therefore, having an active and effective social media profile can help improve your search rankings as well as your social media performance.

Google’s Impact On Social Media

Google has long dreamed of being able to combine its powerful search engine listings with a variety of social results. This universal search is certainly several steps closer than ever before but it remains something of a distant dream. There are, of course, many social indicators that the search engines will use but it makes sense that Google would use data from their own social network, Google+. They have greater control over the information they can access and how they use it. Many believe Google+ already impacts on their SEO and its importance in this respect is only likely to be highlighted more in the future.

Google+

Google+ is the search engine’s first major entry into the social networking arena. They have had previous attempts but on a smaller scale and they are promising and delivering greater interaction between the social network and their search results.

Other Social Media Websites

There are many other social media websites to consider. YouTube is one of the most popular sites in the world and, if you consider it to be a search engine, then it would be the second biggest behind owners Google. It is a social media sharing website and enables those with video content to enjoy another outlet or channel for their creative work.

Examples Of Social Sites

  • Flickr and Picasa enable the sharing of photos while Scribd offers presentation sharing. As well as YouTube, users looking for video sharing sites can use Vimeo and DailyMotion.
  • Digg, StumbleUpon, and NewsVine are what are considered to be social news sites. They allow users to write or syndicate news content and share it with readers.
  • Facebook, Pinterest, and LinkedIn are among the most popular social networks one can access. These often cross the boundaries into other forms of social media websites. Facebook, for example, is also one of the most popular video sharing sites too. • Twitter, while also considered a social network, is a microblogging platform. Tumblr and Plurk are also tagged as being microblogging platforms.
  • Location based social networks like FourSquare and Google Latitude enable users to share their location and even rate or rank the specific establishment they are in. This is a very small sample of the types of social media website that exist. There are some that are highly targeted to small groups of people and offer one very specific service. Mendeley, for example, is a researchers’ social network. Causes, which is actually a Facebook application, is the world’s largest fundraising social media application.

How Social Media Impacts Search

Social media is certainly known to help search rankings. Shares, Likes, and links from such pages are considered social indicators by the search engines and they consider websites with a lot of social indicators to have authority and respect from readers. Some users have already reported that Google+ and Google+1 results can help and has helped increase the ranking of their website.

How To Use Social Media To Your Benefit

Consider your strengths, the type of content you serve, and your target visitors and website users. If you serve video content then you should look to share video. If you want to encourage conversation about the video clips and videos that you share then you should consider Facebook as well as YouTube because this combines the features of a social network and a video sharing website. If you serve news content then NewsVine or another collaborative news website could be your best option.

Social Success

The likes of Dominos Pizza, Dell, and Starbucks are some of the big name companies that have succeeded in the social media arena. Companies are now looking at ways in which to incorporate mobile into their social media. More and more users are accessing social networks like Facebook from their mobile phone and there are many more ways in which users can interact with these sites on mobile platforms. Mobile social media marketing has become increasingly important to those looking to benefit from social traffic.

Setting Your Site Up To Benefit

A full social media marketing campaign can cost a lot of time and effort and for the small business it may not seem like a financially beneficial option. However, the rewards can be exceptional as long as your campaign takes the right form and heads in the right direction. Your website should also be set up so that it benefits your social media campaign. Whether this means offering an online app, giving users easy access to share buttons, or delivering on the promise that you make to social media users, you should ensure that your site is set up and ready to deliver conversion for your efforts. Social media is a powerful means of encouraging user engagement and it can deliver exceptional results for your website in exchange for some time or resources. Have you optimised your site for social media? Do you share content and, if so, has it helped improve your online business results? Let us know below.

A complete and comprehensive guide on how to use Google Disavow Link Option

So, your website has been tanked by the vicious penguin and even after giving your hundred percent to get rid of the spammy links that are making your website bleed, a vast majority of them remain there intact and making your feel totally helpless. But fear not dude, the disavow link is here and hopefully it is going to exonerate you from the sins of your past spammy marketing initiatives that might have probably cost you thousands of SEO dollars. Yeah, yeah it is not that easy otherwise we could have had innumerable number of success stories to share by now. As there is no such great news to relish, we can safely assume that not many people have got benefited from it but that does not necessarily mean that it is not that effective. Nope, probably you do not exactly know how and when to use it [no offense plz]. So, here it goes –

A Little bit of background story

There has been a bit of confusion surrounding the concept of Disavow Link. The building block of web is links; no amount of spam can undo this. So just because a search engine named Google has launched something called – Disavow Link, it does not mean that you should be giving less attention to acquiring links naturally and put all your efforts to monitor and police each and every link that comes along the way and get them down just to be in the good book of Google.

Actually, the concept of online marketing has been hijacked by some shrewd marketers who have been engaged in doing sneaky things to get to the top in some competitive keywords in no time. They were using bulk article submissions, article network sites, massive directory submission and other sneaky stuffs. So, Google has to intervene and now we have got penguin update. But as negative SEO is on the rise and as Google is working on the biggest ever penguin algo update [as news is doing the round], it launches Disavow Link option so that it can avoid the scathing criticism of the webmasters whose websites might be wrongly affected by the upcoming algo shuffle.
Who should be using this tool: As Google is reiterating the fact that this is an advance tool and average webmasters need not have to use this because if used wrongly, it could back fire. So, here are the few hypothetical situations when you should be thinking about giving the Disavow Link a try:

1. Your website has been manually penalized

It sucks when you receive a message in Google webmaster tool about violating Google’s policy or about Link Scheme. But do not jump at the gun at the sight of this message. This message only means that your website is manually checked by human quality raters at Google and they have raised their flag after checking the backlink profile of your website.

However, this does not mean that you need to remove all the links and turn the clock around. Nope, do not make such foolish thing because you will just be shooting yourself in the feet. You need to create a list as mentioned below:

URL
PR
Anchor text

Create an excel file just like above. Add column like – PR, anchor text, Type of website, quality of the content, number of outbound links, Moz etc. You are free to add more columns. When you are done with this you need to figure out which links are affecting your website and which links are adding value to your website. Try to remove as many bad links pointing to your website as possible before, you send a reconsideration request. When you are done with this, the time is up for the Disavow links option.

Select the website you want to apply this Disavow link option.

Click on the red button and it will then ask you to upload a txt file containing list of sites that you wish to disavow.

The format of the text is plain and simple. All you got to do is to create a txt file and it may look like the following -
#This is spammy website, I do want to disaow links coming from this site:
domain:littlespammywebsite.com

#This article directory sucks, I asked them to remove the links, but they did not
Text starting with # will be comment and Google will not be taken into consideration. If you wish to discard all the links coming from a single website, you can use the following parameter – domain:websitename.com .

Just make sure that you are keeping the file short. It should not be more than 2MB.

Just want to reterate that if your website is affected by manual penalty, you need to do both, try Disavow Link option and wait few weeks before sending another reconsideration request.

2. Your website is affected by penguin algorithm

If you saw that the traffic of your website took a plunge after a penguin refresh, you need to clean up the mess as much as possible. Do a background check of the links as I have mentioned above before using the Disavow link option. Since your website has got caught by algorithm update, you need to wait for weeks or probably for months until another penguin refresh goes live.

3. You are a victim of Negative SEO

Sometimes, it might happen that your competitors are doing all they could to hamper the growth of your business. They may be doing sneaky things for your website like – spammy directory submissions, article submissions etc without your being aware of it. In that case, rather than wasting your time and money on trying to get rid of those links, you should be using this tool to make Google aware of the fact that you are not responsible for the crap links built by your competitors.
I am happy to share this information. Let me know how fare with these tips.

The Common Misconceptions about SEO

While Search Engine Optimization is riding the success wave almost everywhere on the internet,
there are more than enough misconceptions about SEO as well. Let’s separate fact from fiction.

1. Do it right once and that’s it

Simply put, SEO is using well placed phrases in the content of your website so as to get the best
rankings in search engines. Content is definitely key and any business or company needs to ensure
that its content is well written, cogent and dependable. But content is not the only thing and so to
write great content and sit back waiting for things to happen will not work in SEO. This is an ongoing
process and needs to be monitored regularly so that you can get more from the process.

2. More content, less design

While SEO does focus on great content, it is a misconception to think that you need to sacrifice
design and aesthetics to be more visible in a search engine. In fact SEO employs not just words
but many other aspects that you might use on the site to drive traffic your way. This could include
something as simple as menu design, the tabs on your website or even the shopping cart customers
use to store their purchase. The better designed your site, the better it is for you. Besides, good
content cannot make up for a confused and confusing website.

3. Pay per Click works better

One would imagine that the internet would be flooded with lot of information but not much quality
if the company that pays for key phrases has better visibility! Search engines do not care about how
much money you’ve spent but about what quality you deliver. Remember, search engines need to
benefit too! PPC works along with SEO and not as a substitute as SEO.

4. Links are overrated

Believe this misconception at your own peril! Links are important when you want the customers’
visit to your website to culminate in a sale. You have to spend time and effort building backlinks
and ensuring that the health of the links to and from your site is good at all times. Links are not
overrated and are instead valuable resources to help your business grow further.

5. The more the links, the better

If thinking that links are overrated is bad, then thinking that as many links as possible is the key to
good SEO is bad too. Flooding your website with links is counter-productive and only help to confuse
the customer. What you should look for instead is a well thought out bunch of workable links that do
an effective job for you.

6. The in-house technical team can handle SEO

Well this is a tricky one. It depends on how good your technical team is and how busy its members
are. Yes of course SEO is not tough to do because you need ‘simple’ things like ASP, PHP and C++
to program but SEO is not just programming. You need to design it well so it can do its job well. For
this, it is helpful to have a dedicated team of people focusing on it, exclusively.
Watch out for the rumors and half-truths and create SEO that is elegant and effective!

Tips for Successful Post-Panda Internet Marketing

Panda and Penguin are close friends. They are tools of Google that designed to re-organizing Google ranking system, reduce the rank of low-quality website. Last two days, we have a post on how Google Penguin penalize a website for overdoing in SEO. This guest post will give you some tips to sucessful in new era of Google.

The last two years have seen some major changes in the world of internet marketing. Google's Penguin and Panda updates have altered the SEO landscape considerably. Here are a few tips to help you succeed at post-Panda online marketing.

Prior to the Penguin and Panda updates, it was possible to rank a website using spun content, directory submissions and automated link-building techniques. Those days are long gone and now you need to have high-quality content and a natural link profile if you want your site to do well in the SERPs.

Marketing Through Quality Content

Content marketing is not a new concept, but it is enjoying a surge in popularity at the moment. Before Penguin and Panda, many webmasters avoided content marketing because it seemed like a lot of work and they knew that they could see good results just by hiring an SEO company to do some automated directory submissions and submit a few spun articles to the popular article farms for them. It didn't make sense to pay more for good content and high-quality links if you could get the same results by focusing on quantity instead.

Now that Google has improved its ranking algorithm, those low-quality links are useless and every good SEO Company knows this. If you want your site to rank well today, you need to build a site full of useful and interesting content. Google appreciates unique content that is relevant to the topic of your website and will love your website even more if it is frequently updated. Not only will unique, fresh and interesting content get bonus points from Google, it will also be appreciated by your users. More important, good content will be linked to via social media sites and readers' blogs.

Organic Traffic and Links

Before Google changed its algorithm, link-building strategies focused on acquiring links for the purpose of increasing the target site's Page Rank and improving the site's ranking for specific keywords. Google now picks up on sites that have unnatural-looking link profiles with a lot of links that have similar anchor texts.

Instead of focusing on links for the purpose of page rank, it is better to focus on creating content that people want to link to because they think it is worth sharing. The traffic that your website receives from such links will land on specific pages rather than the home page. In addition, some of those links will be from sites with a loyal readership. Those readers will click on your link and hopefully enjoy the content on your site and choose to come back regularly.

There are no short cuts when it comes to successful internet marketing. Yes, it is possible to buy traffic and see impressive numbers in your statistics, but that traffic will probably consist of bots, or visitors who are not actually interested in your site. If you want to get quality traffic and have people read your posts and buy the products you are selling, you need to work hard. Today, quality content and regular site updates are the secret to success.

How to Optimize Your Blog

Attracting traffic to your blog is not an easy task. Optimizing your blog needs to consider few important things. The design of blog, home page, content, images, SEO, and the text presentation plays crucial role in optimizing your blog on the net. The visitors often search for good quality content with attractive interface and images.

Use popular keywords

A good way to achieve the purpose of a successful blog is to use keywords which people tend to use more often so that they are directed to the blog with a greater frequency. This helps to achieve the objective of being able to reach out to a wider audience.

Use keywords in the article

A good way to appeal to readers is to use the keywords a few times in the article so that they are easily able to relate to it and their interest in the contents does not sway to something else. Use shorter sentences When sentences are long or convoluted, people find it difficult to trace or remember the train of thought. They prefer reading shorter sentences as it has a great impact on them, so a good strategy to optimize ones blog is to use shorter sentences.

Use relevant photographs

When people see that the writing that they have been searching for is aided by some visual medium such as photograph, they tend to relate to it better and thus find more interest in reading it. A photograph should be chosen in such a way that it says in a summary what the whole blog is all about without giving away the crust of the matter.

Make it easier to subscribe to

When people see that they need to go through a long and painstaking process to register or subscribe to the blog, they tend to get deterred and choose to give up in the first place. So care should be taken to ensure that visitors can easily subscribe to the blog and begin their work of reading.

Allow people to leave comments

Allowing people to leave comments enables them to have a sense of participation in the blog that they are viewing and so they tend to prefer that too other blogs which may have similar content. Another good aspect about this is that the comments or feedback from people helps in making changes as the readers are the people who have the best perspective of the blog.
Optimizing a blog is an art as well as a science, and requires just a little bit of work and dedication in order to make it a big hit. There a host of bloggers on the net and it takes just a few easy steps such as these in order to be ahead in the race and have a good and successful blog.
